“Drive!” what exactly it is?

** If not read, please read the earlier post first

Drive is a kind of emotion which tries to dominate our logical thinking. But as human we always have options to choose.  We may think logically to suppress our drive and choose some other option. People who suppress their drive and choose other way, they end up doing mundane task for some other person’s drive.
Drive always comes from our surroundings or in broader terms, by exploring nature. Sometime we may find something missing in and want to bring in; sometime we may want to find out, why something is like that! Or sometime we may want to make something existing, better. These are the few ways nature is triggering us to evolve itself.
Different people may notice different things and hence they may get different drives. Newton noticed an apple falling from tree and he got a drive to find out the reason for that.
A person does not need to be exceptional to follow his drive. Anybody can follow his drive and can achieve exceptional results. Mahatma Gandhi is the best example. He noticed discrimination directed at black South Africans and Indians which drove him to fight against it. His work in South Africa has dramatically changed him.
Drive is not something running behind positions/designations/money and we should never bend ourselves to gain it, this is not natural at all. These are all rewards and we get them automatically when we follow our drive.
Keeping in mind above factors an organization can structure itself to keep itself align with the nature. An organization clear with its objective can group mix of people, people with drive or people without drive (who are able to suppress their drive). But the proper mix needs to be plan.
The organization need to be careful handling people. You cannot handle people with drive and people without drive in same way. People with drive never run behind money or position. But that does not mean that they don’t want it. They want these things, but they expect organization to take care of it. Never compare people with drive to people without drive, it will boomerangJ.
People with drive should always stay on top. Whatever happens never put people without drive on top of people with drive. The moment you do, it’s the start of organization downfall. This not favoritism, it is the option which a person has chosen… “Either follow your drive or you will be left with only option to follow someone else drive”.

  2. Shaahid bhaay, I am enjoying your blogs and looking forward to more posts. I do agree with the central theme of your posts. But it wont be interesting and enriching if there is no brainstorming and discussion over it. Just to instigate you, I will be the devil's advocate here.

If you are enjoying something and following your drive and also getting paid for it, you should be not complain even if you receive just a little less. But if my drive tells me to do something else and the organization wants me to continue doing what I am doing; then it should better pay me more.

It is all about priorities. Different people prioritize differently. Some care more for money, while some care more for their individual drive. The person running behind money should not regret about not being able to follow his/her drive and the person following his/her drive should not complain about hardships that come associated with it.

I hope I have given you some material for upcoming posts. :)

    1. A person who is following his drive is also earning money. It is the perception which we have created that we need money so we have to work.If you are able to suppress your drive then you can work just for money but end result will be stressful life only.

The way people grow in an organization, that kind of culture they create. If people are growing in an organization suppressing their drive, after few years whole organization will be in more bad state.

Organizations also need to understand that if they have to grow and evolve strong they need to take care of their own as well as peoples drive.

  3. @Aseem: Agree to you. Someone told me one time that unless your own stomach is not full, its difficult for you to work to feed others.
The one who does that is a hero. Heros can not come in mass. they are only few. thats the law of the nature for humans.

  4. Pretty good thinking Shahid bhai and I am agree to your points; that we should always go in accord with our "drive" even if it doesn't matches to our "logical thinking".
But eventually when you keep on tracing your "drive" again "logical thinking" gonna dominate you to ask that how you are doing with your drive? At that moment, it depend person to person what are there priorities as "Aseem Rane said above".
And emotions/obligations/responsibilities are the factors that compel you to compromise.
I am agree, its not about position/designation/money/ but it is usually assumed to be associated with large sums of wealth or a high level of fame.
Newton succeed eventually, that's the reason people knew him. What if he dint ? steeve Jobs, Mahatma gandhi and many did great and that's why they are in talks... how about the guys who follow there drive and get failed ?
